Of all the sailboat listings I have had, Jaru has to be my favorite. I have sailed her on a few occasions and she is a dream to sail. Jaru is all about sailing and a lot less about varnish, polish and shine. She has an unpainted hull (except for anti-fouling bottom paint) with a painted deck and transom. Her rigging is simple and easy with halyards run to the cockpit. Her deck is well arranged and clean. Her bow locker is huge with enough space to hold sails and the deflated dinghy.
Jaru is an Antarctic 45 designed by French designer Philipe Subrero. From my research it appears about 9 boats were built by various builders using this design. Most of the boats that I found were swing keels and were constructed out of aluminum. This is the only one that I know of that has a fixed keel.
Jaru is ideal for long range cruising. She offers three private cabins, and array of four solar panels, comfortable cabin finished tastefully in cherry and yellow cedar and solid aluminum construction. Her cockpit is spacious, comfortable and well laid out. The solid aluminum dodger is well constructed and has three Lexan panels for good forward visibility.
Jaru is currently cruising in the Turks and Caicos with an expected arrival in Fort Lauderdale around May 15. This will end a planned two year family cruise. With the owner's desire to resume a land based life Jaru is now actively for sale. I can arrange a viewing in Georgetown, Bahamas around the end of March or the boat can be seen in the Fort Lauderdale area after their arrival in mid May.
